Why Property Owners Allow Cell Phone Towers & What you can do ??

There is a trend in India, due to ignorance of Property Owners about the ill effects of Cell Phone Towers, they allow to install in residential areas. The Telecommunication companies or Service providers take the  opportunity to pay rent for installation of Towers. Letting Building for cell phone towers is good source of income for property owner & institutions.
Cell phone cos. pay  "rent" for their placement that can range anywhere from Rs10,000/- to 30,000/- per month or above Rs.30,000/- where competition among service providers is high. Some cell Phone cos. set up unauthorised towers which are also called  " camouflage towers " which  looks like Palm tree , water tank, & chimney, street light etc.
However , in cities  like Ahemedabad, Rajasthan, Jaipur, Chennai & Hyderabad High Court has banned installation of cell phone towers in residential areas, meanwhile , the state govt. is also chalking out a policy to crack a whip on cell phone towers in the residential areas in the city.

What  you  can do ?
>> Don't buy  a home near one even if the price is right.
>> Maximize your health through  proper nutrition & good hydration.
>> People who are living near mobile tower 400 - 500 meters should get their houses tested for Radiation.
>> Eat  foods high in antioxidants  & take supplements .
>> Limit your  use of wireless devices. Go back to "wired" connections whenever possible.
>> People can refuse to work or shop in environments that endanger their health. they can demand that
      wireless devices be removed  from their children's schools & from their work & entertainment places.
>> Don't let cell phone cos.  install cell phone antennas  on the roofs of schools where your children
      attend.
>> An apartment owners Asson. or Residential Welfare Asson. (RWA) should ensure that service
     providers  & property  owner has got NOC  from other occupants before installing cell phone towers.
>> If  any citizen has apprehensions , he should seek an explanation  from the company putting up the
      tower. If that remedy fails then they have a right to approach Court of Law.

Cancer to Seven People & death of Two people in Jaipur from Mobile Tower Radiation

We are shocked to read the news published in a local Hindi newspaper of Jaipur that  7 people attacked with brain cancer & 2 people died , it is a dangerous situation of huge radiation emitted from near by mobile towers to the residents living in different Apartments in Jaipur.

Cell Tower Removed by Civic officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation

Two Cell Towers  were removed by the officials of the Town Planning wing  of the  Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on a complaint by Sardar Patel House Owners Society of Fatehnagar. They
alleged that a woman died of Cancer due to  EMR  emitted by Cell phone towers.
Also, several cell phone towers do not have structural stability, with weak structures , incidents of either building developing cracks or collapsing due to weight of the towers.
Due to this the GHMC had served notices on all operators recently on the Andhra Pradesh High Court's directives  to regulate roof top cell phone towers. GHMC  officials said roof top cellphone towers were  of concern as they carry weight & structural stability was required  for them.
After a building developed cracks  in Kapru & High Court direction, the GHMC stopped giving permissions
to erect cellphone towers in the city. " New permissions for cell phone towers were stopped in A.P. Towers which were erected in last 10 years are being checked ", GHMC Chief City Planner told TOI.

The Action against Mobile Tower companies in Hyderabad City by GHMC deserves congratulations for their honest action , but similar problem related mobile tower having in other states of their illegal act in densed population roof tops the concerned Govt. bodies never take action with  valid proof & evidence.
This is a Country -  where Corruption is the main bottom line of our administration.

 "People who are  chronically exposed to low level wireless antenna emissions & users of mobile handsets have reported feeling several unspecific symptoms during & after its use, ranging from burning & tingling sensation in the skin of the head, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, lack of concentration, ringing in the ears, loss of memory, headache, disturbance in digestive system & heart palpitation, " the report says.
Member scientists, ICMR R.S Sharma said  that Compared to Euoropeans, Indian cell phone users are more at risk of radiations due to  country's  hot tropical climate low body mass index & low fat content.
The report suggests that children adolescents & pregnant women should avoid excessive use of cellphones.  People in general should use hands free technologies to minimize the contact of the head with Cell phone. "People having active medical implants should keep their cell phone at least 30cm away from the implant", it adds.
Said Girish Kumar , professor, IIT Bombay , whose research of hazards of cell phone  use was taken as a reference for the committee decesion, " there is a 400% increase in the risk of  brain cancer among  teenagers using cell phones for long period. The younger the child , the deeper is the penetration of EMR as children's skulls are thinner. Study at Jawarhal Nehru Univ. ( JNU ) found that exposure to radiation for mobile towers  & mobile phones have an average impact on male fertility  & pose health hazards by depleting the defence mechanism of cells.

Radiation from Mobile phones & Towers poses serious health risks, including loss of memory , lack of concentration, disturbances  in the digestive system & sleep disturbances , according to an inter ministrial
committee formed by the ministry of communication & information technology to study the hazards posed by mobile towers.
The committee has also attributed the disappearance of butterflies , bees , insects & sparms vanishing from big cities to mobile related radiation.
The  eight member committee, which included representatives from the health ministry, department of bio-technology & member secretary, DoT, has recommended that mobile phones not adhering to standard levels of specific absorption rate ( SAR )- a measure  of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body while using a phone .... should be barred .
It has said mobile towers should not be installed near high density residential areas, schools, playgrounds & hospitals. " The localized SAR value as per the Indian Guide lines standard is  2 watt per kg., averaged over a six minutes period & using a 10 gm. average mass. With higher SAR values of mobile handsets the public could potentially receive much higher radio frequency exposure. We have recommended that SAR levels to be lowered down to 1.6 watt/kg, as prescribed  by the Federal Communication commission of Us," said a member.
Dr. R.S. Sharma , ICMR scientist who represented the health ministry on the committee, said the findings are based on case studies presented by different experts.
"In the case of a person using cell phone most of the heating occurs on the surface of the head, causing its temperature to increase by a fraction of a degree. The brain blood flow is capable of disposing the excess by increasing the local blood flow & increasing body temperature " states the report.

Cell Phone Towers Cancer Risks

A Study performed by Doctors from the German City of Naila monitored 1000  residents,who had lived in an area around two cell phone towers for 10 years. During the last 5 years of the study they found that those living within 400 meters of either tower have a newly diagnosed cancer rate three times higher than those who lived further away. Breast Cancer topped the list but cancers of the prostate, pancreas, bowel,skin melanoma, lung &  blood cancer were all increased.
Another study by researchers at Tel Aviv university compared 622 residents who lived within 350 meters of a cell phone tower with 1222 control patients who lived further away. They found 8  cancer cases in the group affected by the cell tower, compared with only 2 cases amongst the controls.

Cell Tower Dangers & Cell Tower Health Risks in USA

There are more than 1.9 million Cell phone Towers & Cell Phone Antennas in the USA, all of which emit wireless microwave radiation, also known as RF radiation. More than 25% of Cell Phone Towers  are hidden, disguised as flag poles, chimneys , trees , water towers , light houses  ---- even tombstones.
Although  officials continue to deny there is any health risk associated with cell phones tower radiation, there are  countless studies that say otherwise.

Studies on Cell Phone Tower Safety
According to the Mount Shasta Bio-regional  Ecology Centre in California, studies on Cell Phone Tower health effects have showed that " even at low level, there is evidence of damage to cell tissue & DNA & it has been linked to brain tumors, cancer, suppressed immune function,depression, miscarriage & numerous other serious health illness ".
A study by  Dr.Bruce Hocking in Australia found that children living near cell phone towers in Sydney had more than twice the rate of childhood leukemia than children living more  than seven miles away. Similarly the dairy cows that kept in close proximity to cell phone towers for two years had a reduction in milk production along with increased health problems & abnormal behavior. A cow with abnormal behavior was taken away from the cell phone antenna & the behavior subsided within five days. When the cow was brought back near the antenna , the symptoms returned.

Possible Solution to Reduce ill effects of Cell Tower Radiation

There are several health hazards due to radiation from the  cell towers to the human, birds, animals & environment. In India we have adopted very relaxed  radiation norms of 4.7 w/sq.m for GSM 900, whereas serious health effects have been noted as low as 0.0001w/sq.m = 100 uw/sq.m. One of the first step to be taken is to tighten the radiation norms & yet it should be practical enough to be cost effective without causing  inconvenience  to the users.It is recommended that  maximum cumulative power density allowed  should be reduced immediate effect to 0.1 w/sq.m, which should then be subsequently reduced to 0.01 w/sq.m within  year, so that net work planning can be carried out in a phased manner. It must be noted that a few countries have been adopted 0.001 w / sq.m or lower, so our proposed recommendation is higher than these countries to keep it cost effective.
All the operators must be strictly instructed that power density inside  residential / office building , schools , hospitals & at  common frequently  visited places  should be within these guide lines. People must be informed about the harmful radiation effects & corrective measures taken  by  Government Of India. Also , people must be informed that for some time , they may have network problem due to reduction in the transmitted power but it is for their overall health benefit.
Solution is to have more number of cell towers with lesser transmitted power.
Self Certification by the operators must be immediately abolished , measurement must be done by third party. which is independent & trustworthy. Also , radiation measurements must be monitored continuously, so that operator should not increase the transmitted power during peak period.

Adverse effect on birds,animals,& environment

Electromagnetic  radiation from cell Phone & cell tower affects the birds, animals, plants & environment. One would never see a bee, sparrow, pigeon or any birds flying & staying near the cell tower ? The reason is that surface area of bird  is relatively larger than their weight in comparison to human body, so they absorbs more radiation ( Power = Power density x area ). Since fluid content is small due to less weight, it gets heated up very fast & also the magnetic field disturb their navigation skills. It has been quoted  that Albert Einstein had said ," if the bee disappears  from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live."In the US, an abrupt disappearance of bees was observed several years  back & was associated with electromagnetic pollution.This is known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) where bees can not find their way back to hive, as a result of consistent electromagnetic back ground noise that seems to disrupt inter cellular communication within individual bees.

Recently, a sharp decline noticed in bee population in Kerala posing  a serious threat to honey bees.The state has the highest density of Mobile Towers. Similar cases have been observed in Bihar, Punjab , Nepal & other  parts of India & have been attributed to increasing  electro pollution in the environment.

When birds are exposed to weak  electromagnetic field, they disorient & begin to fly in all directions, which explains migratory birds  undermining navigational abilities . A large number of birds like pigeon, sparrows, swans are getting lost due to interference from the "unforeseen enemy ", i.e mobile phone masts. Several million birds of 230 species die each year from collision with the telecommunication masts in the U.S. during migration. Accidents happen mainly in the night, in fog or bad weather, when birds might be  using the earth's magnetic field for navigation & could be seriously disoriented by the microwave radiation from Telecommunication masts.

Effects on Plants :-
Apart from bees, birds & animals, EMR emanating from cell towers can also affect vegetables, crops & plants in its vicinity. Studies  show definitive clues that cell phone EMF can choke seeds, inhibit germination & root growth, thereby affecting the overall growth of agricultural crops & plants. Progressive deterioration of trees near phone masts has also been observed.

Radiation from Cell Towers --By Prof. Girish Kumar

A GSM 900 base station antenna transmits in the frequency range of 935 - 960 MHz. This  frequency band of  25 MHz is divided into twenty sub-bands of 1.2 MHz, which  are allocated to various operators. There may be several carrier frequencies ( 1 to  5 ) allotted to one operator with upper limit  of 6.2 MHz bandwidth . Each carrier frequency may transmit 10 to 20 w of power. So , are operator may transmit 50 to 100w of power & there  may be 3 to 4 operators on the same roof top or tower, there by total transmitted
power may be 200 to 400w. In addition, directional antennas are used, which  typically may have a gain of around 17dB( numeric value in 50 ), so effectively, several Kw of power may be transmitted in the main beam direction.

Biological effects of microwave radiation

When a human body is exposed to the electromagnetic radiation, it absorbs radiation, because human body consists of 70% liquid. It is similar to that of cooking in the microwave oven  where the water in the food content is heated first. Microwave absorption effect is much more significant by the body parts which contain more fluid ( water, blood etc.), like the brain which consists of above 90% water. Effect is more pronounced where the movement of the fluid is less, for example, eyes, brain, joints , heart , abdomen, etc.
Also human height is much greater than the wave length of the cell tower transmitting frequencies, so there will be multiple resonances in the body, which creates localized heating inside the body.This results in boils, drying up the fluids around eyes, joints, heart, abdomen etc.
There are several health hazards associated with cell phones & cell towers.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Cell Phone Technology

Cell Phone Technology has revolutionized the telecommunication scenario in India. Due to its several advantages, cell phone technology has grown exponentially in the last decade. Currently there are more 50 crore  cell phone users & nearly 4.5 lacks cell phone towers to meet the communication demand. The number of cell phone & cell towers  are increasing without giving due respect to its disadvantages. All over the World, people have been debating about associated health risk due to radiation from cell phone & cell towers. Radiation effects are divided into thermal & non thermal effects. Thermal effects are similar to that cooking in the microwave woven. Non thermal effects are not well defined but it has been reported that non thermal effects are 3 to 4 times more harmful than thermal effects.
A cell phone transmits 1 to 2 watts of power in the frequency range of 824 - 849 MHz (CDMA),890 -  915Mhz (GSM 900),& 1710 - 1780 Mhz (GSM1800). A cell phone has a SAR ( Specific Absorption Rate) rating. In USA , SAR limit for cell phone is 1.6 w / kg which is actually for 6 minutes per day usage. It has a safety margin of 3 to 4 , so a person should not use cell phone for more than 18 to  24 minutes / day. The information is not commonly known to the people in India.
Mobile Phone operators divide a region in large number of cells, & each cell is divided into number of sectors. The base  stations are normally configured to transmit different signals into each of these  sectors.
If number of users is distributed unevenly in the surrounding area,  then the sectors may be uneven. These  base stations are normally connected  directional antennas that are mounted on the roofs of building or on free- standing masts. A base stations & its transmitting power are designed in such a way that mobile phone should be able to transmit & receive enough signal for proper communication up to a few kilometers. Majority of these towers are mounted near the residential & office buildings to provide good mobile phone coverage  to the users. These cell tower transmit radiation 24x7, so people living within 10's of meters from the tower  will receive 10 000  to 10,000,000 times  stronger signal than required for mobile communication. In India, crores of people reside within these high radiation zones !!

Health Effects from Cell Phone Towers in USA .

The safety of cell phone towers is the subject of extensive  Scientific debate . There is a growing body of scientific evidence that the electromagnetic radiation they emit even at low level, is dangerous to human health.
The Cell Phone Industry is expanding quickly, with over 100,000 cell phone towers now up across the U.S which is expected to increase ten fold over the next five years. The Industry has set what they say are  "Safe Levels ", of radiation exposure , but there are growing number of doctors  , physicists & health officials who strongly disagree , & foresee a public crisis.
Many Towers have been built recently in  Sisikiyon , Colorado, with dozens  more planned , as telecommunication companies rush to corner markets in this fast growing industry. These Towers emit  radio frequency ( RF ), a form of EMR, for a distance of upto 2-1/2 miles .
They are essentially the same frequency radiation as microwaves in microwave oven.
Studies have shown  that even at low levels of this radiation , there is evidence of damage to cell tissue & DNA,& it has been linked to brain tumors,cancer, suppressed immune function, depression, miscarriage,Alzheimer's disease, & numerous other serious illness. Children are the greatest  risk, due to their thinner skulls & rapid rate of growth. Also at greater risk are the elderly, the frail & pregnant woman. Doctors  from the U.K have issued warning urging children under 16 not to  use cell phones. to reduce their exposure to radio frequency ( RF ) radiation.
The  U.S Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is in charge of setting the standards of  exposure for the public, and claims that, based on scientific studies , the current levels are safe. But it is  not a public agency, & has been criticized as being " an arm of the industry ".
Many  who work for the FCC are either past, present or future employees of the very industries they are supposed  to regulate. With an explosively emergent $40 billion dollar a year  industry at stake,critics have stated " you can bet that their studies are going to show whatever they want to show ".
"U.S federal govt. also once told that asbestos, cigarettes,thalidomide, & the blood supply were"safe",
but which were later found to be harmful.
"You can bet that their studies are going to show whatever they want them to show "--- by 
 Cathy Bergman -- Veniza, at Vermont Law School , Environmental  Law Center conference, 1996.
The current U.S Standard for radiation exposure from cell phone towers is 580 -1000 micro watts 
per sq. cm ( mw/ sq.cm ),  among the least protective in the world. More progressive  European countries have set standards 100 to 1000 times lower than the U.S compare Australia at 200 micro watts.
Russia,Italy,& Toronto, Canada at 10, China at 6 & Switzerland at 4. In Salzburg , Austria the level is 0.1 micro watts ( Pulsed ),  10,000 times less than the U.S. The New Zealand has proposed more Stringent levels, at .02 micro watts , 50,000 times more protective than  the U.S Standard.
Contrary to what the Communication industry tells us, there is vast scientific , epidemiological & medical evidence that confirms that exposure to the RF & microwave radiation emitted from cell towers, even at low levels, can have profound adverse effects on biological systems.
"The worlds leading electromagnetic researchers say existing scientific knowledge is inadequate to set reliable exposure standards,"-- The Vienna resolution, 1998 . 
Cell Phone tower expose the  public to involuntary , Chronic, cumulative Radio Frequency Radiation.
Low levels of RFR have been shown to be  associated with changes in Cell proliferation &  DNA damage. Some Scientific studies  show adverse health effects reported in the .01 to 100mw/sq.cm range at levels hundred, indeed , thousands , of times lower than the  .U.S Standards. These harmful low levels of radiation can reach as far as a mile away from the cel bleeds, an increase in the seizures, blood brain barrier leakage problems, increased heart rates, lower sperm counts & impaired nervous systems.
There are no conclusive studies on the safety of such exposures & the growing body of scientific evidence reports such bio effects & adverse health effects are possible.
Dr. Neil Cherry , Ph.D. biophysicist from New Zealand reports that " There is no safe level of Radiation".
He said the standards are based on thermal effects , but important non-thermal effects also takes place , such as cell death & DNA  break down.. Dr. Cherry wrote " The EMR causes cells to change in a way that makes  them cancer forming". It can increase the risk of cancer two to five times ,
He said " To claim there is no adverse effect from the phone towers flies in the face of large body of Evidence".
Deputy Director of the Department of  Health & Human services , Elizabeth Jacobsen, has stated that the safety of  RF "has not been established nor has the necessary research been conducted to test it ", and cites risk of brain cancer, tumors & DNA breakdown.
The California Public Utility Commission has urged the cell phone industry to, not locate towers near schools or hospitals. " Quite justifiably, the public remains the skeptical of attempts by Governments & Industry to reassure them that all is well, particularly given the unethical way in which they often operate symbiolically  so as to promote their own vested interests ."
The U.S industry lobbied  congress with $39 million dollar in 1996 to ensure passage of a law which essentially gives them the right to place these towers in our neighborhoods, & makes it next to impossible to oppose them based on health reasons. Citizens & Communities across the country ( U.S )
are angered, & are protesting this imposition of involuntary, 24 hour-a-day microwave exposure. As one Citizen stated " There is no place left to escape".

The upper limit is so high that within next few years  the health of  1 crore  Indians could be affected.
But if the recommendations  of the Inter-Ministerial Report submitted by Experts on Cell Phone Towers
radiation submitted to Department of Telecommunications  are accepted then soon there will be stricter restrictions on towers being installed near high density residential areas & schools. At present we follow
ICNRIP guide lines for radiation which allow radiation rate of  9.2 watts per sq. mtre. to be limited. The report recommends  this level should come down by one-tenth. At the same time the report clearly states that the safe limit for our  health is 1000 times less than even the recommended limit.
Experts, like Prof. Girish Kumar , Hd.of Dept.for Electrical Engg. IIT , Bombay, the harmful effects of radiation who worked for more than three decades who is still not very optimistic!
"The number of people having health  problems is more in the areas where radiation limits are high, India has adopted the worst radiation norms in the entire world. " said Prof. Kumar.
It is understood from print media long time ago that The Indian council of Medical  Research ( ICMR ) has flagged off a large scale research project to examine the health impact of mobile tower radiation.

Only for the sake of  multi-crore  business being bottom line in this industry of  cell phones, Health of Indians not being the priority , the Deptts. like  TRAI , DoT, & Telecom ministry of India & above all Political & Cut money policy , all are  sleeping on the Reports submitted by Experts, corruption like , there is no sign of implementation of the report which will soon complete  2 years soon after its submission.

Effects of Cell Phones & Cell Tower Radiation !

Currently in India number of cell phones  are more than 50 crore cell phone users.
Nearly 5.4 lacs Cell Phone Towers are now In India.

Experts like Prof. Girish Kumar,IIT Mumbai ,says that the amount  of Radiation emitted  from these towers in a day is equivalent to putting  one's body in an oven for 19 minutes.

He again says that Half an hour of cell Phone use a day, increases Brain Cancer Risk.

A landmark 10 - year study undertaken by the WHO has found that people who speak on this handset for more than half an hour a day for over 10 years are at risk of brain Cancer.

Experts says that for some people , short term effect from cell tower radiation exposure may include  --headache, sleep disorders, poor memory, mental excitation, confusion, anxiety, depression & listlessness.

According to ICNIRP guide lines exposure to Radio Frequency  fields ( of the 1800 MHz spectrum) in   India = 9.2 watts per sqm.,  Aucland = 0.50 watts per sqm . Russia ( since 1972 ) =0.02 watts per sqm.,    New South Wales  = 0.00001 watts per sqm.

Effects & meaning of Electromagnetic Radiation !

Electromagnetic radiation ( EMR ) is energy in waves ( like visible light ), emitted from a source. It travels at the speed of light. This energy is both electrical & magnetic. The waves alternate rapidly, from positive to negative in electrical terms., & from north to south pole in magnetic terms.
Electricity& magnetism are very closely related in nature. For example, when an alternating magnetic wave penetrates a body ( including yours ) an alternating electric current will flow inside that body.
Electromagnetic radiation from a source , & weakens with increasing distance until it becomes too small to measure.

A strong EMF can be due to a powerful source of radiation far away, or a weak radiation source very close by. That is why the EMF your body experiences from your cell phone ( when you make a call ) is much stronger than the EMF you experience from the cell phone tower. ( Although the cell phone is a weak radiation source , it is located very close to your person, whereas the much more powerful cell tower is located thousands of times further away ). Extremely Low Frequency ( ELF ) radiation will actually penetrate concrete pillars , concrete slabs & metal sheets & of course human flesh & bone.
Penetration is a Key issue when it comes to EMR health effects.

Modified Currents and Voltage generate oscillation of the electrical and magnetic field, which propagates in space.The electric & magnetic components oscillate at right angles to each other, these waves are termed as Electro  Magnetic Radiations ( EMRs).The Cell phone Towers emit electro magnetic rays with a frequency of 1900 MHz. With this high frequency, they can easily pass through human bodies & concrete walls. Our immune system can be harmfully affected when these EMR rays pass through our body Cell phone towers radioactivity can thus affect every living thing in one square kilometers.

People who live in a high- EMF Neighbourhood -- Anyone who lives within range of Electric power lines or cell phone Towers for several ( Five ? ) years or more ( and especially children ). The range depends on the electromagnetic field strength & distribution pattern. Generally 400 meters or more seems to be a safe distance for most power lines/Cell phone Towers. It is worth noting that when the body is overwhelmed by too much electromagnetic radiation, health effects can occur many years later.
In India Telecom Department have not made compulsary  in most sites with 'warning signs' visible,saying "Danger RF Radiations, do not enter , restricted Area " as in case of  High Tension Power Transmission Electric  lines  are seen with Danger  signs.

How safe are you from Cell Tower Radiation ?

Most of the cell tower radiation risk is because the cell phone towers are in residential colonies when they  should be  away from such places the antennae on the towers are too low when they ought to be at greater height, they are far too many when there should be fewer & they are in wrong  places  though guide lines specifically state where there should not be.
EMR safety standards in India are based largely on a 1996 document called 'Health Assessment Statement' by the  International Commission on Non- ionising Radiation Protection ( ICNIRP ), an international independent  non-profit registered  in Germany, ICNIRP  has science experts who "address the possible adverse  effects on human health exposure to non- ionising radiation". In their assessment , the ICNIRP said 600 milliwatt/meter square was a safe limit of radiation for the general public. The ICNIRP also issued separate guide lines on maintaining safe limits for cell phone towers, which India telecom wing adopted in 2008. In India, Cogent classifies emr levels upto 600mw/msq. as safe. Border line is from 601 to 1000mw/msq., unsafe is from 1001 to 4000 mw/msqm. & extreme anomaly  is above 4000 mw/msqm.
In the  long term, we need to find ways of providing cell phone convenience without exposing people to the existing dangers of cell tower radiation.
In recent past there are  lot of discussion on this issue are taking place in India to have more safe application  of Cell tower to restrict its installation out of residential , commercial , hospital & school zone.It is very essential to save human health from effects of huge radiations from cell towers either by making  land bank or specific Zones to be  made throughout the country like  USA, Canada, UK & other developed countries to save huge population of Human to make a pollution free/radiation free environment with ecological balance to save our Planet.

How safe are you from Cell Tower Radiation ?

EMR has a public impact & an individual impact, it impacts a public area when it comes from antennae on cell phone towers, which are the principal source of EMR.
In Delhi alone had 1800 cell towers in 2006, 6000 New cell towers added after that.Had bare minim.radiation level in 2006.
A thousands times more now. There is a new threat in Delhi as per  the radiation  level  was measured  by a  journalist of Tehelka, weekly magazine, that top100 spots of Delhi were mapped in 2010,  revealed & declared in the report  that Delhi is a RADIATION CITY of India. Four fifths of Delhi lives  in unsafe Zones. Prime Minister Monmohan Singh's home is a border line zone. The head quarters of the Congress Party is highly unsafe.
Other sources of emr,which have individual impact, are cell phones, Wi-Fi, blue tooth, microwave ovens, air conditioners,TV sets, refrigerators & other home appliances here, the risk is private because a person chooses to buy these products & this choice does not affect any one other than himself & his house hold.
In the case of emr from cell towers however the risk to health is public. Therefore , the radiation survey in public places, with Cogent emr solution Ltd. a Delhi based  co. that tracks the increase in emr levels across India  & does  radiation audits for Telecom operators.
EMR from cell phone towers is a form  of non-ionising radiation that takes time to show up, it does not interrupt DNA & is similar to the way smoking affects the human body. Cell Tower radiation limits,safe distance & health effects.

The current US Standards for cell site radiation in the US is 580--1000 micro watts per square centimeter.Many other countries have set levels hundreds of times lower.The reason for the desparity is that no one really knows what level of  towers radiation is safe.
Current limits have been influenced more by economic & political imperative than by research into health & safety.
 The safe levels of Power density are 0.1 mw/sq.mtr as adopted by China,Russia,Swiss & Italy,the current situation in our terrace is much above 9000 mw/sq.metere (Microw watt/sq. mtr as measured by a  RF meter).There are conflicting study reports on the potential health ramifications....
But  history has proved in the past that even for matters like Cigarettes & Asbestos, we have a lot of BLOOD on our hands since the past 80 years.
Different Cell Sites emit different amounts of radiation. Radiation levels from  a single cell site vary, depending on usage. Radiation around a single cell tower may not be uniform--- there can be hot & cold spots.
Measurement with a suitable meter is the only way to know how much radiation  you are receiving at a particular spot.But it seems 400meters is a safe distance for most people & smaller distances may also be safe in some cases.

Discussion on Cell Phone Towers Cancer Risk !

Where a base station is installed on top of a building where people live or work, those occupants may be quite unaware that they are in very close proximity to equipment which produces substantial EMR.
Cellular Phone Industry spokes person continue to assert that Cell Phone  towers pose no health risk, almost all scientists in this field would disagree , at the very least claiming that no such assurance can be given.
There is a strong evidence that EMR  from Cell phone Tower is damaging  to human ( and  animal ) health.
A study into the effects  of a cell tower on a herd of dairy cattle was conducted by the Bavarian state Govt. in Germany & published in 1993. The erection of the  tower  caused adverse health  effects resulting in
a measurable  drop in milk yield. Relocating the cattle restored the milk yield.
A Human Study ( Kempton west ) in 2007 measured blood levels of seratonin & melatonin ( important hormons involved in brain messaging, mood, sleep regulation & immune system function) both before, &five months after , the activation of a new cell site. Twenty five participants lived within 300 meters of the site. Substantial unfavorable changes occurred with respect to both hormones, in almost all participants.
Over 100 Scientists & Physicians at BOSTON & HARVARD Universities schools of Public health have called Cell Towers a Radiation Hazard.
Very few studies have specifically concentrated on Cancer risk from cell phone towers. This lack of studies is in itself a cause for concern, especially since anecdotal evidence is plentiful.
For example, in a case known as " Towers of Doom ", two cell masts were installed (1994) on a five storied apartment building in London. Residents complaint of many health problems in the following years. Seven of them were  diagonised with Cancer. The Cancer rate of the top floor residents (closest to the tower) was 10 times the national average.
That more research is needed but it may be slow in curing. Those who might fund major studies are the very same organisation who would be disadvantaged if a definite link between cell towers & cancer were established.
At an international  health conference , 33 delegates from seven Countries declared  cell phone towers a public emergency.

Cell Towers In other countries how they look ?

Since 2002, I have visited United Kingdom & made 5 trips so far to UK & European Countries  till 2009.
Presently I am visiting USA since last 4 months,traveled from east coast to south coast important cities like New Hampshire State,Buffalo state-Niagra falls, Massachusetts -Connecticut, Boston, Newyork, New jersey , Texas State - Dallas city, Houston city etc.
The cell phones are very essential now a days to everyone, many own cell phones more than one.In modern time the use of cell phone is a must , it is an essential tool to keep connected with each other.
In United Kingdom & USA - Cell Towers/Service providers are Independent owner,operator&developer of broadcast & wireless communication sites.
The cell towers are rarely seen installed on roof tops, if at all found on roof  tops, the building is very high rise one. The Cell towers mostly installed  either on land or on top of mountains surrounded with huge  jungles to camouflage cell towers fixing  high mounted  antenna discs on a huge single metal tapered  shaped pipes, in its bottom, the base station room made of PVC at ground level of the tower. A big tapered (16''dia.to 6")octagonal shaped steel pipe mainly is used as main member of the cell tower. In many places cell tower's antennas are not visible .One can not see cell towers in UK like India, the rules & guide lines are very strictly followed by the service providers, no where chance of violations are seen,another  important thing is that the cell towers are not seen in Residential areas & it is not allowed  by the Govt.,but in exceptional cases the cell towers are also seen in commercial/industrial areas for better coverage when density of users are more .The locations of cell tower in UK & European Countries are not seen in short distances, minimum 1 mile radius is maintained between the next tower. Due to strict rules of Govt. no service providers dare to violate the law of the land, the whole communication systems are managed with limited number of towers, by this radiation level does not exceed .
The radiation audit of the cell tower is always submitted to Govt. body by the service providers as per the  License norms.I have rarely seen any cell tower installed in low mounted manner to protect the bad effect of  health hazards of human & animal  from radiation. The single tower is shared by multiple service providers by their different antennas. Due to the strict adherence to rules the health hazard complaints are less. If any complaints are received the local planning, zoning or community development office will intervene the matter &  solve the problems of complainants.
In foreign countries the Technology of Cell Tower is so advanced that the  Electrical  High Tension Transmission  Structural  top posts  are being used by  fixing cell tower's  huge circular Antennas, which is very power full & gives long long distance coverage of cell phone users & in its ground the base Stations are  housed between its 4 legs of  Elec.Tower posts, which is done very intelligently by using the space & saving money by the service providers & keeping cell towers away from human living area.There was a report  published  in 2009 in UK that Scientists have found that Cell tower radiation has no health risk ! There is no solid proof in this regard. But there is strong evidence that EMR from cell phone tower is damaging  to human ( and animal ) health.
In USA  cell towers are mostly fixed in highly mounted  specially made tapered pipe post more than 60 to 80feet high from ground, in some places more than 100ft.towers are seen, & these towers are shared by multiple service providers fixed in different levels & in down town areas cell towers are seen on top of high rise (minim. above 20 storied) Buildg. in office areas. But when you travel or drive on freeway/ high-ways the cell towers normally are seen either on hilly (inside huge jungles) or in plain ground away from freeway. Here in USA/UK  one single tower is being shared by multiple service providers, very rarely seen cell towers near to residential area , near play ground, near Hospitals or School Bldgs.

Cell Towers In other countries how they look ?

In this Blog, I like to write about the  Look of the  Cell Towers construction structures which differ in its look from country to country. In India majority of  cell tower structures are built on  Roof  only by the private service providers by Leasing, very few Cell towers are built on Land by acquiring Land either by purchase or lease in urban & suburban areas. Only Govt. organisation like BSNL's huge cell towers are found mostly on land which depends mostly on availability.But in Kolkata  BSNL a Govt. Unit has also violated by making Cell Towers without obtaining permissions  from local Govt. bodies for which WBPCB & KMC already have received complaints from public,due to violation o  guide lines.But most private MNC Cos. are  found to make mostly Cell Towers  only on roof with concrete Pedestal column base, making tie beams on columns by extending old columns if available or if where old columns are not found  it is made by  making new frame work of column & beam of huge size of which dead loads were  not calculated in the initial design of the main Building /Apartment/flats, resulting structural stability of the building making the existing structures & foundation of the buildg. at risk, after  concrete pedestals are ready then there comes  installing of 4-legged  special grade aluminium frame work on Pedestal base of 15 mtr. height ( 50 feet). by bolting structures of bottom legs on a iron base plate fixed  in concrete pedestal  by iron bolts. Next comes making of  Room's wall & its Roof by  PVC make, as to work  as base stations room on same roof top, connecting electrical cabling power connections drawing from ground, installing all electronic accessories inside the room, but no where Warning sign board is being displayed/visible with caution board to make alert public -to  remain away from Radiation Zone, another the Aviation Lights not fixed on top of the tower  for night visibility , also fire fighting arrangements are not provided in most near  Cell tower zone which are all  mandetary as per guide lines of the  State Govt. What Corruption is going on in our Country ( India ) in open day light  due to most ignorance of public ??? In one side many Illegal towers are mushrooming, loss of huge Revenue of Govt. & other side these service providers are making their business at the cost of Human health ?
Further it is also seen in many places where whole open roof is available on Lease - there the service providers make the towers on the 4 corners of the roof area by the side of parapets with low ht. of antennas of circular discs & vertical types are  facing near the neighboring buildings.
There is no regular check ups for measuring Radiation audit levels ?

Cell Towers in other Metro city Of India

In 2010 June ,Tahelka  A weekly Magazine of New Delhi /India , published a dangerous survey report making head lines in their 1st. week issue of magazine about the Cell Towers are located in Delhi Metropolitan city capital of India violating Govt. guide lines near to Important Hospitals,Important Schools,Near All India Congress party office, Connaght place , Near BJP party office, all these places are located near huge Cell Tower Radiation Zone,only PM's residence, Rashtrapati Bahavan ,Congress Party supremo Sonia Gandhi's residence are out of Cell Tower Radiation. They measured the radiation levels in important  places of  cell towers in MCD area & found that the radiation level are more than the norms .
With this news of magazine there was huge  turmoil in Govt.as  the cell towers pictures are shown & a detailed report published in the magazine showing all public reports , public complaints , people are already suffering in different diseases like Cancer , eye diseases , skin probs etc.  due to huge cell towers are installed in residential/commercial bldgs. in low mounted roofs having not followed any guide lines of MCD ( municipal corporation delhi), This news immediately became head lines of popular Electronic media like Star News, Zee news in that time, Govt. of Delhi metropolitan city have done nothing !! The Hon'ble Delhi High Court issued  a directive to Central Govt. based on petitions made by public PIL to constitute a High Power Committee to assess the health hazards on human health from Cell Tower Radiation by Medical Experts , Scientists, Technical Experts , Govt. DoT's Officials ? This news came in National news paper & Telegraphs news paper of kolkata, Court Ordered that to submit the Committee's Report within three months, three months report still awaited !!  It has already passed one year of Court's order, nothing has come out. Again in the 3rd. week of June '10,another  Cell Tower report  published by Tehelka Magazine on India's famous business city of Mumbai , similar cell tower radiation report was submitted by the same Magazine about the dangerous radiation hazards in a Metro City !! The Tehelka Magazine Group still now active in measuring  the radiation levels of Towers at random basis located in sensitive areas.

Illegal Cell tower In metro City Kolkata/ India

The Chief Law Officer of West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB)/Kolkata  Sri Biswanath Mukherjee gave press release before one of the local largest News Paper dt.10th. May '11 stating that henceforth who ever have no legal permission to set up Cell tower & not removed within the time of notification given by Govt. body will be demolished like other metro cities Delhi & Mumbai where  Illegal Cell towers are removed already but this move in Kolkata will be first time based on a complaint (from this blogger) of having two illegal Cell towers in South Kolkata have no permission, this press release was given based  on my above complaints. The concerned officer also told to the press reporter of the print media that  in his office daily receiving such complaints of illegal towers, but this time they will not keep silent will be removed & accordingly given instructions to CESC ( Calcutta Electric Supply Co.) to disconnect the power supply.
All this press release repeatedly  came in the local newspapers stating bla bla that Govt. (KMC) is becoming vigilant & strict to take action against Illegal activities of law violators (Service Providers). After the above press release in the beginning of the year nothing has happened to those violators still now they are running their business at the cost of our health & depriving Govt. revenues. The land lord & service providers are again going to renew their Lease Aggt.
The Good & transparent Governance we can  not expect from such corrupt & inefficient officers & other Govt. bodies  -who do not think before going to the WAR , that how the Order Issued by the above officer will be executed !! Talking only  bullsheets to media for cheap popularity that we  will do this & that !!  The Govt. body till now could not take action or execute the above order mentioned in my earlier Blog , failed to make an  example like Delhi & Mumbai having the full power in the Administration . We are still waiting to see an exemplary action in Kolkata !!

Cell tower what I saw

The constant persue on the subject is still going on either by letter , email , personal meets to the concerned agencies but the wave of Paribartan not yet working in all places after new Govt. took over charge.
In  this way the matter was followed up in different levels, made meetings with local important members of social bodies for opinion to  combat such corruption causing health hazards to elderly persons, children, pregnant women & other various diseases are happening arround us, there are people who are very against of this silent killer standing on top of our roof , antennas are facing to wards buildgs. spreading constant radiation,mostly are installed in a low mounted roofs m creating a regular income to the landlords, for this cause of illegal towers in many areas of Metro city which is a common sight now a days we some like minded men took decision to meet Hon'ble Mayor of Kolkata as well as other KMC officials with genuine cases like
Director General, (Building)KMC  regarding  demolition of  two illegal mobile towers , he said it is not the job of KMC ,as KMC has no infrastructure for such work, but they have infra stucture for eviction by court order with the help of Police dept. its just avoiding by a highest & responsible officials of Govt., he has categorised the works on behalf of service providers not to take action for such such illegal activity in his personal whims, most interesting thing  is that he has issued a circular stating that in case it is found such illegal installation will be regularised on receipt of application from service providers with a fine of Rs.5lacs for each Tower. It shows/reveals from this circular there is indirect support & encouragement to the service providers to go on installing illegal towers making agreement between Landlord & Service providers , if complaints come we are there for your rescue and will be solved by imposing penalty to make it regularised, in this way whole Kolkata City , Salt lake city ,Howrah city,Urban areas , 18 district boards are mushroomed with illegal towers by not adhering any guide lines of Govt.. The Electro magnetic Radiation (EMR) level is increased  automatically & there is no govt.body to measure the radiation level at random basis , neither the service providers submit the true radiation level to the licensing authority nor Govt. body check ? In this way whole country's Cell Towers are installed  in this style irrespective on School Buildg's. roof top, near or inside Hospital buildgs., near play ground , in densely populated Residential areas. The out come of meet with Hon'ble Mayor as mentioned above has no impact because he has been kept in the dark about the health hazards of Cell Towers & installation of Cell Towers .

Cell tower what I saw

The Two Cell tower companies in my earlier Blog failed to submit  the permission documents of Govt. bodies to Appellate court of WBPCB within the prescribed time approved earlier , as a result the Chief Law Officer of West Bengal Pollution Control Board is entrusted to execute different environmental laws within the territorial jurisdiction of the state of West Bengal,for the purpose of abatement of pollution & protection environment, state Board he issued an Order no . 5L/WPB/2010/T dt. 28.04.2011 upon M/s Wireless TT Info services Ltd.,now known as M/S VIOM Networks Ltd.,   &
 M/S.Indus Towers Ltd, to remove the mobile towers from premises no.32/12A, Gariahat Road - South, Kolkata -700031,for installing mobile towers without obtaining necessary permission of the competent authorities and therefore,State Board directed the mobile tower companies to remove the mobile tower from the premises under question within the prescribed time given in the order was15-05-2011,failing which State Board will issue necessary Regulatory order  by imposing 'Pollution Cost' & also demolishing order without any further reference.
As per the Law of the Land Mobile Tower Co.  before installing any mobile tower should obtain permission from the following authorities:-
a) Ministry of Communications & IT., Department of Telecommunicatios (DoT), Govt. of India
b) Local Authority like KMC.
c)Permission of the State Board for installing the Diesel generator set ( presently this is banned by the same board)

d)Structural Stability Certificate from the competent Engg. institution for installation of mobile tower & every year  the certificate  has to be renewed.
e) Permission of the other occupiers of the premises ,tenants, residents welfare committee -where mobile tower is intended  to be installed and in case of plain land permission from the Land & Land reforms Dept. and occupier of the land.
The Chief Law Officer  issued copies of the order to all concerned  like Exe. Director of CESC  not to give any Electric connection , copies to two tower cos., complainant, Land Lord of the premises, & so others.
After lapse of 15.05.2011 I not seen any action to execute the order by CESC for power disconnection, KMC  Authority , WBPCB , then written & personally met all concerned  but not found any result.
After the Victory of Trinamul Congress & others alliance parties over CPM Regime formed a New Govt. to bring Paribartan in the Stae of West Bengal, met the new Environment Minister with detailed documents handed over at Writer's Buildgs. on 10 th. june ,'11 in the presence of Principal Secretary in the room of MIC- environment, but all went in vain, after that also given reminders no result. As the Govt. have no joint action plan committee between KMC . Police dept. & WBPCB ,these flaws of Govt. the two tower cos.used the lapses of Govt. & moved to High Court to get it delayed  of their Illegal Act,as in our country Judiciary is very lengthy process, many illegal acts are being made legal by the loop holes of laws framed by Govt./ Country's Parliament.
To know the status we are meeting & writing to the concerned authorities about the subject above (under RTI act) no favourable reply is there till court decide!!

The legal battle  between service providers , Kolkata  Municipal Corporation (KMC) , West Bengal pollution Control Board (WBPCB)  & Police Dept. always there based on individual / mass  complaints , these responsible Govt. bodies  never make any flying check by a separate team of officials to watch how things are happening whatever approval they are  giving time to time to these service providers are being followed in toto or not , even they do not  take/ reply any complaints in the form of simple written complaints unless you ask through RTI Act. During the regime of earlier Govt. In West Bengal State/ India, no deptt. was honest in their action, WBPCB  dept. in the earlier time of Govt. has made a record of Corruptions in cell tower erection in residential Bldgs. in a very low mounted nature ,without using a single tower by multiple service providers with antennas. Based on my complaints  to WBPCB as mentioned in my earlier blog above, the dept. took action against Two service providers illegally installed over the Residential cum Bank Buildg.by sending me a letter of Hearing Notice to be present on the date of hearing in the
  Appellate court of WBPCB where in the said letter I noticed  that Land lord & the two service providers were asked to be present with their all documents of permissions , agreement copies etc. I went as usual with all my supporters /friends were present on the date of hearing date in the office of WBPCB, the court started at 3.30 pm  the officials of service providers did not present in the court , they send their Advocate to plead on behalf of them , the advocate said before the Magistrate/ Law officer  that they want more time to produce documents , the attending advocate submitted Wokalotnama  before the magistrate for another  15 days time to do so , but it was just to take more time & linger  , as they do not have any legal permissions .

In the meantime more unauthorised complaints of Cell towers started to  come in from my known source & friends --places viz. in South Kolkata - Selimpur , Bijoygarh , Howrah city, north kolkata Dum Dum area, salt lake area , urban areas of kolkata , here most of the people are protesting like me since  a long time b'coz of errecting cell towers very close  to their residential living building mostly even less than 5 metres ( 16ft.3in), in some places less than this distance too. One of the  famous Print Media of Kolkata also published one article in their editorial page written by me which reced. good response from public & many like minded  readers written to editor of news paper -  saying the article published on health hazard from cell tower Radiations for its harmful effects is of severe concern of  people living near cell tower - needs  frequent awareness programme or publish  the actual harmful effects by  News reporter or make / measure radiation levels  from cell tower antennas to convene by the renown  print media  & save people. The  major print media & Electronic  media  of our country have no  role  in this corrupted  health hazards business being run by MNC - Service providers.

Wishing  All  Vijayadashami  of  Durga puja  good wishes, greetings & ensuing  Diwali  greetings, I  like to write more about the subject titled above :-
The reply from Exe. Engr. CPIO / Bldg. dept. & reply from WBPCB  started to come in for  making constant complaint under RTI Act -2005  , the contents of the letter surprised me  very much what I was anticipating last one year which came out as true ,clear like day light, that  both cell towers  installed on the Bank cum residential buildg.'s Roof  was 100% unauthorisedly installed  &  without the permission of KMC & KMC officials were investigating the matter on receipt of my complaint  from their source , as the dept.was working since  2010 against the service providers & Landlord, ultimately the cell towers were declared  illegal, action was taken against landlord & service providers  under section -401  of KMC municipal act, the legal battle started  informing WBPCB ( West Bengal Pollution Board ). On  receipt of  official letter from Govt. body  I wrote enclosing  photo copy of the letter  to  Dept. of Telecom (DoT) Central Minister , Hd. of DoT New Delhi , Honb'le Mayor of Kolkata,  Chairman & Chief law officers of WBPCB/State govt. for Dismantling of the Illegal Cell towers for  violation of Govt. Guide lines not  obtaining - necessary permissions like structural stability certificate, consent of Tenant Like Bank , residents welfare committee , importantly huge  loss of Govt.  - revenues.  In this way the service providers  all over the State & other parts of  Country doing such  illegal practice  with the help of huge powerful local touts, politicians , govt. staffs  & before the police stations as well .  Public  totally in dark !!!  Such  Huge corruption  by MNC cos. are doing in the name of  cell phone  ! who can stop ?

The  great support from many circles  inspired me to go into details & contacted local  Councillors, MLA  for the mushrooming of  cell towers in South Kolkata sky leasing in residential buildgs. it  is now a business of agents  & landlords/ Developers  of their personal income from Service providers whatever be the conditions of structures , I started writing to WBPCB , Mayor of Kolkata & Municipal commissioner Under RTI Act giving the locations of Illegal cell tower about their permissions status given by local bodies, the reply started to come , while giving  permission I gathered informations  from   KMC concerned officials like Exe. Engineer CPIO/RTI of  Buildg Dept. that a section of  engineers & staffs are involved in giving quick permissions by ignoring guide lines & structural stability certificate from land lord in exchange of good  cut money, viz - in  my neighborhood in south Kolkata consists of  5 schools, 2 hospitals , health clinics , dense residential populations  - 5 cell tower installed & exists already in low mounted  buildings. in an area of less than 1.5 sq.kilo.mtr .
Again  in 2009 - some time in feb- march- in an old 3-storied residential cum Bank building on Gariahat road - south, found in fine morning  a truck load of aluminium structural members  unloaded , which gradually  lifted to roof  , in my mind I thought this may be some thing for the use of Bank , it did not struck my mind that  a dangerous cell tower was going to install !! there are many adjacent 4 to 5 storied  buildings within a distance 8 to 15 mtrs.& it came up so soon, then one day CESC gave  connection & started to run the Tower , the  Cell Tower  base station was not displayed by any danger signboard by saying  " Danger RF Radiations, do not enter, restricted Area" which are mandatory as per guide lines of Govt. I have a small terrace garden by the site of this cell tower where I daily go to look after my  plants & flowers, since it  was installed I am scared living so close  to the towers afraid to go to my terrace,  'coz.antennas are fixed & looking towards my buildg.  the other neighbors are just observer , no protest made to the  landlord ,  I went to the  close by Schools  where Hd. mistress./ masters, students of morning section & day section all are aware of the harmful effects  of cell tower radition , but not able to protest in black & white  to  the govt. local bodies , like this way  time passed away.
 Again in 2010  in the same buildg. of Gariahat road south another const. started on its staircase roof  by extending old  columns  made 4 sides of its corners, heavy   beams (which load was not calculated or not foreseen 30 yrs. back) made 4 huge RCC padestal  on top of its beams for  4 - huge  Alu. structures Post to come up for another cell tower 18 mtr. High  from Roof level, similar way another tower  came up on the same roof within  fortnight  , power connection  given by CESC & it started to run like the previous one , so the emision of radiation became double , it is happening just before my house of 4 - storied building .
Then  having no option, I thought I must do something in the form of mass protest in democratic way by mass signature campaign from my immediate neighbors , I went then house to house, met people & explained its harmful effects , schools to schools, hospitals,  health clinics ,  residents to  flat owners , got massive support from all , I then handed over  a copy to near by I/C of  Police Station , local councillor , local MLA , MP , made RTI to  WBPCB , Hon'ble Mayor of KMC  , Municipal Commissoiner  , Exe. Engr. KMC Buldg. Deptt. Br. X of ward - 92  for necessary enquiry of such illegal cell Tower , I met personally  mayor of kolkata  in his office & handed over  the  mass petition , while discussing  I gathered that  the Hon'ble Mayor is not much  aware of the health Hazards from Cell phone towers ! & he has been kept  dark  from its illegal   activities by Director General, Buildg. dept. of KMC .

After my retirement  from Govt.  service in 2006  , I further worked as Sr.Project Manager with a Delhi based Consulting firm  nearly 2 years then decided  not to work any more, while doing a Project in a new township of East calcutta I have seen  cell Towers were established by BSNL of highly mounted with circular & vertical antennas, that time the private cell towers started to get  their license  from Govt./DOT , the new  service providers initially followed the govt. guide lines given by respective States , local state bodies like municipal corporations , urban bodies,gram panchayats etc. That period  towers were quite a few in number but after some time due to development of telecom technology & to provide more coverage among cell phone users, the service providers started to lease privately by using residential buildings, schools buildings, hospital  buildings with municipal permissions. But later when the Central Govt's. Health & Welfare  dept. amended the earlier orders after receiving many complaints from parents, guardians & many residents, the  Welfare Committee issued new guidelines by State Govt. after amending the earlier orders to avoid  School & Hospital  buildings not to be used for cell tower and leasing by the Cell Phone Service Providers who were working in respective areas. In the mean time I read lot of news as complaints in Print media about the Illegal Cell towers coming up in many parts of India violating the guide lines, it started gradually in many places of different cities, legal battles started gradually between public & service providers for their unlawful act to make cell phone business. Meanwhile I had chance to visit UK/London  & a few cities in Europe and while visiting different places in abroad I did not notice any mobile towers like our Country - mostly the cell towers  are highly mounted , invisible, cell towers are not mushroomed like our country, single tower is shared by many service providers in a decent way with aviation lights  fixed on top of cell towers, fire fighting arrangement wherever necessary. After a few months I came back to Kolkata. Since then it struck in my mind very adversely why our service providers are doing  indifferent when the technology is same for all? I started studying many articles on cell phone towers written by many Physicists, Scientists, Medical experts,  Nobel Prize Nominees, our Ex President Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad -  in their opinion the cell tower emits Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR) constantly & harmful to  human health & it creates health Hazards, if the cell towers are Installed in residential areas! It  struck me very much how to convey such health Hazards to the public! I then asked my  friends who are social activists, I got a strong support from my friends.

Cell radiation and health hazard

Hello All,
This is my first blog post, this blog is primarily focused to combat illegal installation of cell phone tower near residential areas in Indian cities and why our Government is not doing anything about this. Does the government not give any credibility to our lives? I want to be sure that I am NOT against Cellular technologies.
My objective is to get like-minded people together and raise a voice to the Government. I want you all to put your comments and suggestions regarding this and make this blog popular enough to get their attention. I want you all to put in any solutions or suggestions that might have worked in your neighborhood that helped fight against similar encounter.
I have been travelling around various cities in UK and USA in the past few years where I have noticed a much better installation procedure of these cell phone towers. These towers are either located in the woods or highly mounted in the residential areas & also invisible type cell towers. My recent visit to USA has been to highly populated cities like down town areas of  Boston, NYC, New Jersy, Dallas, etc. In these cities, the towers have been located out in the mountains, top of high rise buildings and top of high tension electrical towers. I have also seen multiple service providers have grouped their antennas together in a single tower avoiding multiple tower installation also simplifying tower maintenance.
Our Governments on the other hand are least bothered about all the health hazards that we Indians are prone to. Multiple cell phone towers in a residential neighborhood is very harmful to us, because of the amount of electro-magnetic radiation (EMR) these towers emit. These towers emit EMR with a frequency of 1900 Mhz, these high frequency radiations can pass through our bodies easily and effect our immune system. Medical research have shown that diseases like cancer, memory loss, headaches etc. These radiations are very bad for our younger generations and also pregnant women.
Finally I would like to conclude my first blog post saying that, IT IS NOT TOO LATE!
We could reach out to our government and provide credible logistics and make our government aware of the harmful radiation affecting us.
