Gave a press statement in Hindustan Times in last August '12 which I am repeating for our awareness that in Mumbai out of 3705  mobile phone towers  across the City that can jeopardize  your health & life , 1830  - that's roughly  half of them --- are illegal, says the Civic body .  but the Brihanmumbai  Municipal corporation ( BMC ), which discovered this fact , last June , when it conducted  a survey of mobile phone towers , has done nothing  for the past 13 months to remove the illegal ones. So far , Officials  have taken action against only 140 illegal tower. As reported in HT's July 15 edition, it's common for people living close to mobile towers to experience the recomends that radiation levels be  only 450 milli watts / sqm. the Current radiation levels permitted in India are 4,500 milliwatts . sqm as per  International commission on non-ionizing Radiation protection norms.
Adverse effects -According to experts  being expressed to a mobile tower located within 50 mtrs. is like being in a microwave  oven for 24 hrs. Though recently  on 1st. September'12 DOT has asked by Govt. notifications to Cell Operators  asking them to reduce power/radiation level  by 1/10th.  from existing  norms. This is nothing but show to public by Govt. , who is going to monitor ? Is TERM Cell of DOT have checked, who is authorized to do & organize nation wide checking ?
I am writing out of frustration that I live in Kolkata trying to locate the illegal cell towers , many towers are located , the cell operators defeated in appellate  court of Pollution Control Board ( W.B), the list of illegal cell operators  handed over to   Municipal commissioner, Mayor of kolkata, the Civic Body  is doing nothing to remove or demolish ! Though I find that Mumbai Civic Body is taking stern action by demolishing the towers , Hyderabad Civic Body , Rajasthan , Hariyana, Kerala etc . are taking actions  except our KOLKATA, a change has come in the name of Ma - Mati - Manus , but in reality  no change appears or not having any administrative  control or action against these  violators of Govt. guide lines . Kolkata Civic Body agrees that they have no idea how many Cell Towers  exists in Kolkata Residential Building Roof Tops, it is presumably more than 4000 cell towers exiting but Civic Body have no record though Govt. is losing lot of revenues.
Because we Indians live in fools paradise!

DoT has announced Acceptance of Recommendation made by the Inter-Ministrial Committee ( IMC )  were accepted by Government and directions in this regard were issued  to the Mobile operators  vide DoT letter no. 800-15/2010-VAS  (pt.) dated 10.04.2012 making the new norms applicable  from 01.09.2012, so that the Telecom Service Providers may adjust  their networks to comply with the new norms. How ever IMC recommended  for lowering the mobile towers' EMF exposure limits to 1/10th. of the existing  prescribed limit as a matter of abundance precaution & recommended the  following limits:

The new norms  for towers, which came into  on September 1.  have made the radiation limit more stringent  by reducing  it from 9.2 w/sq.m  to 0.92 w/sqm. a 10 fold  decrease .
There are around 4.5 lakhs  telecom towers in India. The DG of Cellular Operators Association India ( COAI ) opined  that due to lowering  the radiation limit, decrease in power supply to the towers which will bring down radiation levels. While this  solves the compliance problem, it means the coverage area  of each tower  goes down .
To achieve  the new norms   why Telecom companies  will manually  decrease the power supplied  to the towers ? Who will monitor ? Self Audit report by cell Operators will be another corruption ? Why TERM  Cell / DOT not  entrusted for   measuring & monitoring  through out the  country. Let us go back  to Land Line Phone   by developing its Technology for  better services. Let us "Quit Cell Phone " as we are not fit  to use this technology by our ill motive & earn money by corrupt means . In all State Govts. many guide lines are issued in the form of Office Orders by Principal  Secretaries of Deptt. of Environment. Out of 4.5 lakhs of Cell Towers in India more than 50% are illegally installed. The local bodies  such as municipal corporation, Gram Panchayats are not having exact no. of cell towers in their areas. These local bodies are loosing huge revenue due to a  racket of corruption exits inside these offices , the staffs of local bodies & Police stations just keeping quite even any body lodge complaints.
By new norms reducing power by 1/10th the  DOT has opened  another front to have more cell towers which will mushroomed over the Roof tops in residential areas.  Why  DoT  not asking the Cell operators  to install  highly mounted towers away from  residential areas like USA  & European countries where Towers are  not shamelessly displaying on roof tops except on sky scraper buildings ? Becoz. it is costlier on land  than erecting on roof tops. Our Govt. has no  bold  directive towards the cell operators due to fear of loosing  huge revenue & cut money , where  in Western world there is no so much chaos among public in Western countries for cell tower's effects of health hazards  from its  radiation & there is no much violation of Govt. Guide lines  , where in India the guide lines are framed to remain in papers , none to check  at random ,but  cell operators  work up to obtaining permission from SACFA  but a very few take legal permission from local bodies.
I have no confidence in this new norms of  lowering  the mobile towers' EMF exposure 1/10th of  the existing  prescribed limit. A hide & seek game will  start between TERM Cell  & Cell Operators !! 100% checking by TERM Cell to be evolved . A neutral independent body to be formed including representative from Residents Welfare Committee  to ensure Sanctity  of the IMC report.
What methodology has been done to know the EMF exposure is reduced in new norms , as I live very close within 30 feet distance to 2 nos. of Illegal Cell Towers , as TERM cell measured the radiation levels 3  months back , if I feel the change then I can  write in my blog that some thing different in my bed rooms.
Hope to write more in next blog ! Other wise we will believe that we are living in FOOLS PARADISE.

Measuring Cell Tower Radiation by TERM / DoT on 13 th. june'12

I skipped writing BLOG  in June '12 due to my preoccupied schedule with Govt. Bodies relating to Cell Towers  Radiation from its Antennas / Masts. They measured the radiations to  4 houses within 20 meters distance from the cell towers. Tower Location in South Kolkata  32/12A, Gariahat Road ( south ) ,Kolkata - 700031, India. TERM stands for --Telecom Enforcement,Resource and Monitoring Cell 

I made  my petition to DoT Delhi - under RTI Act - 2005  to arrange  the followings :-

• Requested to measure the Radiation levels in my Residential building which is located very close to 2 nos. of  Cell Towers installed  illegally on the roof top of my immediate neighboring building 25 feet apart ,with the connivance of Landlord  & with  cell operators.It is gathered that the towers are used by more than two cell operators as antennas are many of many cell operators fixed.All its antennas are facing my bed rooms in first floor,  2nd floor  &  3rd floor respectively. After waiting more than one month  I reced. a call from TERM  / DoT , Govt. of India   that they are coming to measure my bed rooms radiation levels . They came on 13th. June '12 after 3pm carrying huge costly Radiation Measuring Instrument consisting of a team of 3 officials, before entering they visited neighbor houses by going to their roof top , inside bed rooms , found radiations exists every building , every rooms close to antennas.
• The whole team members entered my house & found radiations exists in every floor, rooms but  more in roof areas as the terrace roof close to 
• antennas.  I could take their  photographs with the instrument which you can see from top picture . 
• As per  ICNIRP   guidelines  and DOT  order the power density limit with lowest frequency in range as 800 MHz is 4.00 w/sq.m.
• There are  3 operators  Vodafone, Idea , Uninor .

 There  are 3 Tower  Company /  IP partner  - INDUS , VIOM , VIOM.

The Director / CPIO  TERM Cell / Kolkata in his letter  written that Measurements were taken  at four spots   near my premises & was done within the frequency range of 800 MHz to 2300 MHz. which covers all mobile technologies in use and around this site , viz., CDMA, WCDMA , GSM and 3G.

These  Cell towers  are installed in the above premises violating Govt. guide lines 

without structural stability certificate , without Municipal corporation permissions, the municipal  corporation  declared Illegal  & served notice to the landlord under section 401 KMC  demolishing act 1981.

I complained further to the West Bengal & Central Pollution Control Appellate Authority against the Cell operators who have defeated in the Appellate court recently after legal fight since last one year. The Appellate Court has issued ORDER & disposed two cases instructing  Municipal Commissioner for Demolition proceedings against the Towers soon  for gross violation and non payment of any fees.

levels  -- it is not what the Govt. says is  OK. that matters but  how the Human Body   reacts over time to the levels that it is exposed to. Prof. Girish kumar IIT/ Mumbai also said to me before  O got the report from TERM that wherever  Govt. TERM Cell  makes  measurement , they find it Ok & within the limit of ICNIRP guide lines and DOT order.  Who cares about the health  hazards !! The Govt. will not be alert  till there is CANCER Boom in the country, recently in electronic media & print media  lot of topics & news are published .

Personal Experience of Cell Tower Radiations

Feeling  of Radiations  from my Neighboring Antennas  of Cell Towers installed illegally on Roof Top By M/S Viom  Networks Pvt. Ltd & Indus Towers Ltd. very close to my  bedrooms just opposite  to my building of residence  going on emitting  radiations .


 Initially I was not knowing the level  of radiations  inside my bedrooms moving around 24 hrs. which I could know only after measuring  by an Instrument Cell phone Tower  radiation  DETECTOR , before measuring  levels of radiations I was using my bedroom since  more than  1 year. During this period  I  & my family developed  different symptoms like Headache, sleep disorder, loss of memory,Joints pain ,developed cataract in both eyes due to not knowing the situations prevailed in my bedroom. After measuring  the radiations by instrument we have relocated  our bed room since last nearly one and half month. Now we are feeling little different physically &  now we are not using our bed room except changing our garments , we try to spend very less time in our bed room. 
With this problem I met with Hon'ble Environment  minister of Govt. of west Bengal with  representation
letter  to save us from high level of radiation in my building / bed room &  by extending  Govt. financial help  to provide shielding in my windows  which was enclosed with quotations . The Chairman Mr. Dutta of WBPCB expressed that radiation matter does not fall under WBPCB which falls under Central Deptt.of Telecommunication,  who regulates the radiation  aspect  of cell towers , but I replied to him that the Health of public is the concern of State. So some one's family effected with radiation health hazards , State  Govt. will be only playing blame games ? If there will be soon Cancer boom in the state due to radiation , can state Govt.  remain quite ?
I am now scared  what to do in this situation , only  2 cell operators I find them only responsible  whom If  asked to audit the radiation their reply will be  "within the limit". The Central Govt.  not introducing the recommendations of radiations submitted by a expert committee in Jan. 2010 . The Govt. is awaiting for  Cancer Boom in the Country from huge radiation from 5lacs of cell tower in the country.
Now I am informing this situation  to the readers who ever reads this blog they can give their suggestions  if they have any to save us.

Tips no.4 --  Shielding your bed Room
If the problem is restricted  just to your bed room, then the easiest, the most effective  but  not necessarily the cheapest solution would be to use a EMF Faraday Canopy over your  bed. This is a basically an ultra fine metal wire mesh which works like a mosquito net but instead of keeping out the mosquitosit keeps out RF radiation. This kind of shielding can be very effective  up to 99%.
Tips no. 5 --   Shielding your Windows
Usually the place to start  shielding your room is the windows , reading from your EMF meter  will confirm this . Your windows  are the weak spot & usually provide the least protection from EMFs. The good news is this is really easy to correct using a special window film. You can buy scotch tint in a roll , cut it to size , peel off the backing , moisten it & stick it to your window.
Tips no. 6  --   Shielding Paint
 If you want to stop the cell tower radiation penetrating your bed room through an out side wall then the best solution is to use a shielding paint something like yshield . Yshield is a water based paint, free of toxic solvents, which I have found easy to apply. It can be used on walls , ceiling, doors. it adheres well to cement, plaster , polystyrene & most building materials. It can be used inside as well as out .
Tips no.7 --   Cheaper EMF Shielding
For Internal walls , which unlike external walls don't need to breathe, then an even cheaper solution is to use insulating aluminium foil , as in the building industry, you can stick this to the walls using wall paper paste & thus just paper over the top.

Cell Phone Tower protection Tips

What to do if a cell phone tower is erected next to your home ?
There is one big difference between cell phones & Cell towers . A cell phone you can choose  not to have one at all & if you do have one you can choose to switch it off whenever you want.
But if a cell phone tower pop up next to your home, this is a different story. remember electromagnetic fields ( EMFS ) can not be seen & can not be heard but they go  through pretty much everything & nearly anything.
First thing first , before you get overly concerned about the dangers of your nearest cell phone towers, you first need to put your own house in order. there is no point going to great lengths & great expense with all sorts of elaborate shielding if inside your home  you have not already minimized/eradicated all the radiation sources. t
Here are 7 Tips on how to protect your home from Cell Tower Radiation :-
1. Do you need to take action ?
The starting point is to establish whether you need to take action. Firstly  need to ascertain just how close the nearest cell phone tower is , if the nearest cell phone tower is  more than a half a mile away then you should be able to sleep easy. There are no hard  & fast rules on this, one study which comes to mind found that there were adverse health effects within 400 m. But this depends on the  radiation  output of the cell phone towers in question. as a rule of thumb if the cell phone tower is within 500m & you can see the antennas from your home then you need to investigate further.
2. Get some reliable EMF readings !
Investigating  further means obtaining reliable readings from an EMF Meter.If however you are perhaps within 400m or closer & you are already experienced symptoms then you would be best advised to purchase  an EMF Meter at the outset to measure the RF radiation. This will some you money in the long run.
3. Shielding your Home !
Once you have got  some readings then you have something to go on what you need to Shield. Shielding  your whole house is just not going to be feasible  & will in any case be fairly  point less. Instead you need to focus your  attention on the room where you spend most of your time & your bed room, If you spend most of your time in your kitchen then you would be  looking to shield your kitchen & shield your bed room, unless you line in such a big house that the bed room  has negligible readings.  I would not want to " line " or spend any considerable amount of time in an environment where RF levels are above 0.02 V/m.
